A Major Inspection is a detailed, in-depth assessment conducted at specified intervals or after significant events, in accordance with AS 2550 and AS 1418. 

It involves partial dismantling and close examination of critical load-bearing and structural components, including pins, bearings, ropes, chains, brakes, and drive systems, as well as verification of safety devices and controls. Non-destructive testing and measurements may be undertaken where required.
